Walking Tours

Explore North Main Street's History and Architecture

Enjoy a leisurely walk along Suffield's historical and beautiful North Main Street. Tour stops include: the Civil War Monument, Old Burying Ground, the Kent Memorial Library, and the Gay Manse, the 18th century home of Reverend Ebenezer Gay.

Discovering Suffield's South Main Street

Tour South Main Street and learn about the tobacco barons of Suffield! Participants will view the home of John Welles Loomis, one of six brothers who made a fortunate through tobacco in the 19th century; as well as the homes of his son and nephew. Other tour stops include: the home of ironworks owner David Todd and the residence of Timothy Phelps, a Revolutionary War veteran and later operator of the Suffield Mineral Springs.

Cemetery Tour

Tour Suffield's Old Burying Ground


Enjoy a tour of the local cemetery and learn the stories behind Suffield's earliest residents. Highlights include: Samuel Kent, Esq., a 17th century political force in Suffield whose family name now graces the town's library; Reverend Benjamin Ruggles whose monument resembles the church building he had constructed in 1700, and John and Benedick Lawton, the oldest legible stones in the cemetery dating to the 1690s.
